Fact-Checking Policy
How factual claims in Journal articles are supported and reviewed.
Last updated
Our approach
Factual claims should be supported by appropriate sources, and reviewed according to the nature of the content. A short explainer about a public program calls for different checks than an analysis that relies on figures from several sources.
Sources we prefer
Wherever practical, we rely on primary and authoritative sources: government agencies, official program documents, statutes and regulations, published research and the organizations directly involved. Sources are cited or linked so that readers can consult them.
What we review
- Figures, dates, dollar amounts and program rules, checked against their source.
- Names, titles and the descriptions of organizations.
- Quotations, checked against notes, recordings or published statements.
- Headlines, summaries and captions, checked against the article they describe.
Limits
Review is carried out as part of the editorial process. The Journal does not represent that every article is independently checked by separate staff or outside reviewers. Rules, prices and program details change; articles reflect information available at the time of publication or last update.
Raising a concern
If you believe a claim in an article is not supported, write to contact@dailyupdatesjournal.com. Concerns are handled under our Corrections Policy.
